Franklin Elementary strives to maintain an environment that is safe for all students and free from threat and danger. We intend to maintain an
atmosphere that is conducive to learning and not distracting in any way. Therefore, the following standardized dress code regulations are in effect for all students who attend Franklin.
Students, teachers, and staff are expected to dress in a manner that demonstrates they respect themselves and the learning environment. Clothing should be neat, clean, and appropriate for learning and weather conditions. At no time should it cause disruption to the learning environment of self or others. Parents are expected to observe the dress code whenever they are in the building.
The following would be considered in violation of the dress code:
· Clothing that is low enough to reveal a student’s underwear.
· Clothing advertising drugs, alcohol, tobacco, acts of violence or lawlessness.
· Clothing associated with gangs, illicit drugs, or illegal substances.
· Clothing with offensive and/or vulgar language and/or designs.
· Clothing that is sheer (see through), or skintight clothing.
· Clothing with intentional cuts, slashes, fraying, or holes.
Wear shoes that allow students to engage in play during recess and PE.
Fingertip Rule:
As a rule of measurement, all bottoms (skirt, shorts, dresses) must reach the fingertips when arms are held loosely at the side.
If a student attends Franklin with inappropriate dress, they will be dress-coded. If dress-coded, the student will be sent to the front office for a change of clothing. Parent contact will be made about the violation. If the student continues to dress inappropriately, the parent will be contacted to bring a change of clothing.
